Harry Nightingale and Frank Griffiths

Harry ‘Salty’ Nightingale and Frank ‘the Blade’ Griffiths, in front of Bondi Surf Club, 1928.

Two of the original solid 100lb surfboard riders down at Bondi, Harry ‘Salty’ Nightingale and Frank “the Blade’ Griffiths in front of Bondi Surf Club in 1928. Harry Nightingale gave a snotty nose kid by the name of Jack Mayes, his first surfboard. Stan MacDonald, one of the first Beach Inspectors on Bondi Beach used to chase ‘Salty’ and ‘the Blade’ down to the south end of the beach which was pretty much wild and uncharted waters for a boardrider back in the day.
