A good old Bondi mate – the late Johnny Pick. I knew Johnny well in the ‘50’s and ’60’s. He was from the 1st Ramp and a good mate of Mick Benjamin, my next door neighbour at Narrawallee. Johnny was Olympic Standard swimmer back in the days when Aussie Swimmers ruled the world. He got a scholarship to a US college for swimming where he continued to surf. Always happy and always smiling. A Bondi Champion. Passed away a few years ago up at Byron where he lived. Johnny was an excellent surfer – board and body. Just a natural. He was a Champ and a top guy. Like many of us, we all met up in the ‘50’s as members of Bondi Amateur Swimming Club. Terry “T Shirt“ Falson (also from the swimming club) was a good mate of Johnny Pick. ~Terry Jenkings
